Rep. Mike Thompson, who represents California’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing anti-corruption efforts, veterans’ health care, and gun violence remembrance.

On January 22, 2026, Thompson announced his rating from a political advocacy group: “Proud to receive an “A” score from @StopBigMoney on their 2026 Anti-Corruption Scorecard. I’ll always fight for accountability and transparency, and I have always supported overturning Citizens United.” The organization StopBigMoney tracks lawmakers’ positions on campaign finance reform.

Later that day, he addressed issues facing veterans with insurance providers: “Like many veterans, I receive my health care through the VA. But too often, insurance companies prey on veterans to enroll them in Medicare Advantage plans, which aren’t billed when care is provided through the VA. According to the Wall Street Journal, one in five veterans” (posted January 22). Thompson highlighted concerns about how some private insurers market Medicare Advantage plans to veterans who primarily use Veterans Affairs health services.

On January 23, Thompson commemorated victims of a mass shooting: “Three years ago, a shooter killed 7 people and wounded one other in Half Moon Bay. We remember those lost, hold their community close, and recommit to action. Everyone deserves to be safe in their community.”

Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999 as representative for California’s 4th district. He was born in St Helena in 1951 and continues to reside there at age 72. He earned his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Chico in 1982.
