Rep. Mike Thompson, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 4th district, addressed issues of foreign influence, nonprofit oversight, and youth activism in a series of posts on February 10, 2026.

In his first post at 16:47 UTC, Thompson called for greater scrutiny of both American nonprofits and the current administration. He stated, “Foreign influence in American nonprofits deserves oversight. But if we’re serious about accountability, we can’t ignore what’s happening inside the White House and across this administration. Members of this administration have deep financial and political ties to foreign actors,”.

Later that day at 19:00 UTC, Thompson expressed support for student protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activities in several California counties. He wrote, “Thank you to all the young people across Lake, Napa, Sonoma, Solano, and Yolo counties who walked out to stand up against ICE terrorizing our communities. Proud of you for exercising your rights and speaking out against injustice.”

At 20:00 UTC on the same day, Thompson commented on the issue of nonprofit tax-exempt status amid political disagreements. He posted, “Nonprofits should not risk losing their tax-exempt status simply because this administration and Congressional Republicans disagree with their views. Oversight must be even-handed, not used to target those that the majority doesn’t agree with.”

Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999 as representative for California’s 4th district. Born in St Helena in 1951 and currently residing there at age 72, he is an alumnus of California State University, Chico.
