Rep. Mike Thompson, who represents California’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, addressed several issues on his social media account on October 4, 2025. His posts ranged from concerns about Medicare telehealth coverage to updates for high school seniors interested in military service academies and advice for constituents during a government shutdown.
In a post published at 20:00 UTC, Thompson criticized House Speaker Johnson for not holding votes related to Medicare telehealth services. He wrote, “Because Speaker Johnson refuses to hold votes, Medicare telehealth coverage has expired. Doctors are already canceling appointments, leaving millions of seniors and people with disabilities without access to care they need. This didn’t need to happen. Congress has bipartisan” (October 4, 2025).
An hour later, Thompson shared information relevant to students in his district: “Fourth District high school seniors: If you are planning to apply to one of our nation’s military service academies, application packets are due October 17, 2025. For more information, visit: https://t.co/ZZXrPO2Wbp https://t.co/ccnWhilSNY” (October 4, 2025).
Later that evening at 22:35 UTC, Thompson encouraged civic engagement amid the ongoing government shutdown by stating, “What can you do during the shutdown? Raise your voice, get involved, and remember: don’t agonize—organize. https://t.co/d8x8BSwFMZ” (October 4, 2025).
Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999 and is known for representing constituents from California’s Napa Valley region.
He was born in St Helena in 1951 and continues to reside there at age 72.
Thompson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Chico in 1982.
