Rep. Mike Thompson, who represents California’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently addressed constituents and students through a series of posts on his official Twitter account. The tweets cover topics ranging from military academy nominations to clean energy policy and student leadership opportunities.

On September 2, 2025, Thompson invited high school seniors from the Fourth District to apply for nominations to U.S. military service academies: “Fourth District high school seniors: If you are planning to apply to one of our nation’s military service academies, my nomination portal is NOW OPEN. Packets are due October 17, 2025. For more information, visit: https://t.co/ZZXrPO2Wbp”.

Later that day, he commented on recent federal policy changes impacting clean energy projects: “Thanks to the President and Congressional Republicans’ decision to gut the clean energy tax credits I wrote, $14 billion in clean energy projects have already been canceled or delayed. America should be leading the clean energy future, not turning our back to it and ceding” (September 2, 2025).

On September 3, Thompson promoted an opportunity for youth engagement in public service: “Every year I am so proud to host my Student Leadership Council with Majority Leader Cecilia Aguiar-Curry. If you’re a high school student interested in public service, consider signing up for this year’s program! Sign up at https://t.co/klB46riXSu.”

Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999 and continues his legislative work representing California’s Fourth District. Born in St Helena in 1951 and currently residing there at age 72, Thompson graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982.
