Rep. Mike Thompson, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 4th district, recently posted a series of updates on his official Twitter account covering topics from immigration enforcement to environmental protection and education policy.
On January 23, 2026, Thompson addressed his opposition to funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), stating, “ICE has continued to terrorize communities in Minnesota and across our country, and that’s why I voted NO on funding ICE. I support impeaching Kristi Noem. I’ve coauthored articles of impeachment against her, and I’ve introduced legislation to force ICE agents to wear body”.
Later the same day, he highlighted recognition for his environmental work: “I received the Sierra Club’s Edgar Wayburn Award on behalf of all those who worked with me to permanently protect 273,000 acres of wilderness in Northern California and to change the law to better prevent and fight forest fires. It’s an honor to be one of only a few dozen”.
On January 24, 2026, Thompson discussed legislative efforts aimed at making education more affordable: “My American Affordability Act lowers the cost of education and workforce development by expanding education tax credits, reducing the tax burden on student loan interest and forgiveness, and making it easier for students to afford an education without breaking the bank. This is”.
Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999 as representative for California’s 4th district. Born in St Helena in 1951, he continues to reside there at age 72. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Chico in 1982.
