Rep. Mike Thompson, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 4th district, addressed his constituents in a series of posts on April 14, 2026, highlighting community engagement events and commenting on recent IRS policy changes.

In one post, Thompson announced an upcoming event at Lakeport City Hall: “THURSDAY: Members of my staff and Supervisor Brad Rasmussen will be at Lakeport City Hall from 2 to 4PM to discuss issues impacting you and our community. If you need help with passports and visas, veterans benefits, IRS issues, agricultural issues, small business assistance,” (April 14, 2026).

Later the same day, Thompson criticized a new Internal Revenue Service policy regarding information sharing: “We should be making it easier for people to file their taxes, not scaring people away from paying. According to the Yale Budget Lab, the IRS’ new policy sharing undocumented immigrants’ private taxpayer info with immigration officials could cause up to $300 billion in lost tax” (April 14, 2026).

He also marked Vaisakhi by acknowledging its significance: “Happy Vaisakhi! May this celebration of faith and abundance remind us all of the importance of the Sikh values of charity, unity, and justice.” (April 14, 2026).

Mike Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999. Born in St Helena in 1951 and currently residing there at age 72, Thompson graduated from California State University, Chico with a BA in 1982.
