Rep. Mike Thompson, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 4th district since 1999, posted several updates on his Twitter account this week highlighting local economic and education initiatives.
On May 8, Thompson marked Small Business Week by emphasizing the importance of supporting small businesses, stating in a tweet: “This week is Small Business Week, making it a great time to support our local small businesses. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy employing nearly half of all workers in our country.”
Later that day, he addressed early childhood education funding for children with disabilities, writing: “Children deserve access to education no matter what. That’s why I am cosponsoring Reps.DeSaulnier and Huffman’s ‘Funding Early Childhood is the Right IDEA Act’ which would restore full funding support for disabled children under 5 to receive the support they need to ensure they…” The proposed legislation aims to reinstate comprehensive funding for early intervention services.
On May 9, Thompson announced federal relief efforts for agricultural workers impacted by recent industry disruptions: “Grateful that USDA granted our $9 million emergency federal relief request for farmers harmed by the closure of Del Monte’s Modesto cannery. Great to have worked with peach growers, local leaders, Senator Adam Schiff, Rep. David Valadao, and Assemblyman James Gallagher to ensure…” The USDA’s approval follows collaboration between Thompson and other regional leaders to address losses from the cannery closure.
Mike Thompson was born in St Helena, California in 1951 and continues to reside there at age 72. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Chico (1982).
