Rep. Mike Thompson, who represents California’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, used his social media platform on October 5, 2025, to address issues related to education and ongoing legislative activity in the House of Representatives.
In a post marking World Teacher Day, Thompson stated: “On #WorldTeacherDay, we honor the dedicated educators who shape the next generation. Teachers are the backbone of our communities, and I’ll keep fighting in Congress to ensure they have the resources, respect, and support they deserve.” (October 5, 2025)
Later that day, Thompson criticized Congressional Republicans for not holding votes in over two weeks. He wrote: “The House hasn’t held a vote since SEPTEMBER 19th at 10:53 AM!!! For more than two weeks, Congressional Republicans have blocked action to lower costs and make healthcare more affordable. They’re choosing a taxpayer-paid vacation over the people they represent.” (October 5, 2025)
Addressing healthcare policy discussions in another post on October 5, Thompson said: “Speaker Johnson claims we don’t need to discuss healthcare tax credits until the end of the year. But the truth is, millions of Americans will start feeling the impact as soon as November 1, when ACA enrollment begins and premiums could more than double. Democrats are ready to”
Mike Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999 and currently resides in St. Helena, California. Born in St Helena in 1951 and now aged 72, he graduated from California State University, Chico with a BA degree in 1982.
