Rep. Mike Thompson, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 4th district since 1999, marked National Voter Registration Day on September 16, 2025, by encouraging constituents to participate in the electoral process and reflecting on recent events.
In a post published at 15:35 UTC, Thompson wrote: “Today is #NationalVoterRegistrationDay! Registering to vote and updating your voter registration information are the first steps to making your voice heard in upcoming elections. Register to vote at the link below.”
Later that day, at 18:30 UTC, he addressed voting accessibility and advocacy efforts during Disability Voting Rights Week: “Every voter deserves the opportunity to cast their ballot without barriers. Grateful for the outstanding local leaders and advocates who helped spread the word and educate on accessible voting this past #DisabilityVotingRightsWeek. Together, we can ensure the over 70 million”
On the evening of September 16, Thompson commented on the death of actor Robert Redford, who was once his neighbor in California’s 4th district: “Saddened by the passing of iconic actor and former CA-04 neighbor, Robert Redford. He was an incredible actor, director, and environmentalist and he will be deeply missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.”
Mike Thompson has served as a member of Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999. Born in St Helena in 1951, Thompson continues to reside there today. He earned his bachelor’s degree from California State University, Chico in 1982.
