Rep. Mike Thompson, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 4th district, marked the anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and addressed concerns about healthcare and small business challenges in a series of posts on February 24, 2026.

In a statement commemorating four years since the start of Russia’s full-scale assault on Ukraine, Thompson wrote on February 24: “On the anniversary of Putin’s illegal full-scale invasion, we stand with Ukraine. For four years the Ukrainian people have shown extraordinary courage in the face of brutal and illegal aggression. We must remain steadfast in defending democracy, sovereignty, and freedom.”

Later that day, Thompson criticized Congressional Republicans for their approach to healthcare policy: “We need strong, well-trained health care professionals to meet the needs of our communities. But Congressional Republicans have stripped health coverage from millions of Americans. With a trillion-dollar hole in our health care system, how are we supposed to train the next”

Addressing economic pressures facing small businesses and families, Thompson cited Bernie Narvaez as an example: “Bernie Narvaez is a family man and small business owner. He sees firsthand how much it costs to raise a family and keep a business running. But this president’s policies are squeezing small businesses and driving up the price of everyday necessities. We’re fighting to hold this”

Thompson has served in Congress since 1999 after replacing Frank Riggs. He was born in St Helena, California in 1951 and continues to reside there at age 72. Thompson holds a BA from California State University, Chico.
