Rep. Mike Thompson, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 4th district, posted a series of statements on his social media account addressing topics ranging from federal research funding to higher education and recent testimonies in Congress.

On March 18, 2026, Thompson questioned the Trump Administration’s decision to reduce grants for kidney disease research. He wrote: “I asked the experts at today’s hearing a simple question: Did we cure kidney disease? The answer was no. So why is the Trump Administration cutting grants for research funding? This is not the time to pull the plug on the science that could save lives.”

Later that day, he reflected on a meeting with students from Napa Valley College, noting his connection as an alumnus and advocating for affordable education. On March 18, 2026, he stated: “Great meeting with students from Napa Valley College. As a proud alumnus, I know firsthand the opportunities NVC provides and the impact it has on our community. I’ll keep fighting to make higher education more affordable and accessible by lowering student loan interest rates,”

On March 19, 2026, Thompson acknowledged women who testified before Congress that day. He posted: “The women who came forward today are the definition of bravery. Read my full statement below.”

Mike Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999 and currently resides in St. Helena, California.
He was born in St Helena in 1951 and is now 72 years old.
He graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982.
