Rep. Mike Thompson, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 4th district, posted several updates on his social media account in mid-March 2026, touching on military experiences, veterans’ affairs, and the anniversary of a mass shooting.
On March 15, 2026, Thompson shared a personal memory from his military service: “#Throwback to when I made a tandem parachute jump in Tucson, Arizona with Seal Team Six! This took me back to my days with the 173rd Airborne Division and as an instructor with the Army Airborne School.”
Later that day, he commented on legal developments affecting Department of Veterans Affairs staff: “Glad to see that the courts are resisting Trump’s attack on the incredibly hard-working staff at the VA. Stripping their contract is an attack on working class Americans, health care access, and our country’s veterans. Thank you, AFGE.” The post references ongoing debates about labor rights for federal employees and acknowledges support from the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE).
On March 16, Thompson marked the fifth anniversary of a mass shooting in Atlanta: “5 years ago today, a gunman killed 8 people at 3 spas in Atlanta. Today, we remember those lost and hold their loved ones in our hearts. We must commit to enacting sensible policies to end gun violence in our communities.” The statement comes amid continued national discussions over gun policy reform.
Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999. He was born in St Helena, California in 1951 and continues to reside there. Thompson graduated from California State University, Chico with a BA degree in 1982.
