Rep. Mike Thompson, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 4th district, addressed concerns about health care access and insurance costs in a series of posts on his social media account in early October 2025.
On October 3, Thompson highlighted the potential impact of Congressional negotiations on local constituents, stating, “At home in our district, over 28,000 Americans will see their insurance costs rise if Congressional Republicans don’t work with us. Democrats are at the table ready to negotiate.”
Later that day, he addressed misinformation regarding health care for undocumented immigrants: “By federal law, undocumented immigrants cannot receive federally funded health care. Congressional Republicans know this, but they’re spreading lies anyway. This fight is about Americans access to affordable care.”
The following afternoon, Thompson underscored the broader implications of a potential government shutdown for health care: “Why should you care about the shutdown? Because your access to affordable health care is at risk.”
Thompson has represented California’s 4th district since 1999 after succeeding Frank Riggs. He was born in St Helena in 1951 and currently resides there. Thompson earned his BA from California State University, Chico in 1982.
