Napa County announced on May 7 that homeowners across the county, including American Canyon, Calistoga, Napa, St. Helena, Yountville, and unincorporated areas, may qualify for a forgivable loan of up to $105,000 to build an Affordable Accessory Dwelling Unit (AADU).

The AADU Program aims to expand affordable housing options and provide more flexibility for both homeowners and the local workforce. The initiative invites homeowners interested in constructing an affordable ADU and renting it to income-qualified tenants to attend upcoming information sessions scheduled for Wednesday, May 13 in American Canyon and Thursday, June 11 in Calistoga.

During these sessions, participants will learn about available forgivable loans ranging from $60,000 to $105,000 depending on unit size and project specifics. The loans are fully forgiven over a five-year period if all program requirements are met. Information will also be provided regarding tenant eligibility standards for income-qualified renters as well as how the county assists with tenant certification. Attendees will receive an overview of the development process from representatives of the Napa Sonoma ADU Center along with county planning and building staff.

Whether attendees are just beginning their planning or ready to start construction on an ADU, officials say these sessions offer a clear roadmap for taking advantage of the program’s benefits.

The American Canyon session is set for Wednesday, May 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at American Canyon City Hall (4381 Broadway Napa), with live Spanish translation available. The Calistoga session will take place Thursday, June 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Calistoga Community Center (1307 Washington Street). Interested individuals can RSVP through Eventbrite links provided by Napa County.
