Rep. Mike Thompson, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 4th district, addressed constituents on social media regarding gas prices, federal refunds, and education initiatives in a series of posts published on April 10 and 11.
On April 10, Thompson commented on recent economic pressures faced by residents: “If you filled up your tank in the past month, you felt it. Food, shipping, and airfare” (April 10, 2026).
The following day, Thompson highlighted his office’s efforts to secure financial benefits for local residents: “Since 2016, my team and I have helped our community recouped nearly $90 million dollars from the federal government in refunds and tax breaks. Almost $20 million was recouped in 2025 alone, in large part thanks to my landmark legislation providing tax relief to wildfire victims.” (April 11, 2026).
Later that same day, Thompson described a meeting with university students about making higher education more affordable: “Met with students from UC Davis to talk about ways Congress can make education more accessible and affordable, including by passing my Lowering Student Loans Act. This bill helps students by capping interest rates at 2 percent. Honored to have the support of California’s best and” (April 11, 2026).
