Rep. Mike Thompson, U.S. Congressman representing California’s 4th district and a long-time resident of St. Helena, addressed several policy issues and local acknowledgments in a series of tweets posted on November 14, 2025.

In a post made at 17:43 UTC, Thompson criticized Congressional Republicans’ health care proposals, stating, “Congressional Republicans have been saying they have an alternative health care plan for fifteen years and have not delivered. The government may be reopened, but families are now weeks away from paying higher premiums that could force millions to choose between their coverage”.

Later the same day at 19:57 UTC, he commented on the economic impact of federal trade policies under the current administration. He wrote, “Due to the President’s trade and tariff policies, Californians are paying an average of $1,112 more this year. That’s a far cry from his promise to ‘bring down prices on day one.’ Even as he claims ‘costs are way down,’ families are being forced to cut back on essentials — proof”.

In his final tweet of the day at 21:15 UTC, Thompson recognized community service by board members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Helena and Calistoga: “Honored to recognize three long-time Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Helena and Calistoga board members Bob Torres, Marianna Hawkins, and Sean Maher for their years of service to building incredible opportunities for young people. As one of the original board members, I’m so proud to”.

Mike Thompson has represented California’s 4th district since replacing Frank Riggs in Congress in 1999. Born in St Helena in 1951 and currently residing there at age 72, Thompson is known for his longstanding ties to his constituency and graduated from California State University, Chico with a Bachelor’s degree in 1982.
