Rep. Mike Thompson, who represents California’s 4th district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of statements on his social media account addressing topics ranging from local tributes to legislative initiatives.
On February 3, 2026, Thompson reflected on the legacy of a local figure in Lake County wine production. He wrote, “Jed Steele was a dear friend whose presence filled every room. His vision and tireless work helped put Lake County’s vineyards on the map. Jan and I are grateful to have known him and to honor his legacy.”
The following day, Thompson addressed presidential ethics and government accountability. On February 4, he stated, “No president should be allowed to sue the government and pocket taxpayer money. My Prevent Presidential Profiteering Act taxes 100 percent of any settlement paid to a sitting president. The presidency is public service, not a profit opportunity.”
Later that same day, Thompson commented on congressional oversight responsibilities regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He posted, “This is a win for transparency and accountability. Congress has a responsibility to protect taxpayers and ensure ICE follows the law and operates with proper oversight. Proud to be a part of Democrats’ Litigation Task Force.”
Mike Thompson has served in Congress since 1999 after succeeding Frank Riggs as representative for California’s 4th district. Born in St Helena, California in 1951, Thompson is currently 72 years old and resides in St. Helena. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Chico.
