Rep. Mike Thompson, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 4th district, addressed a range of issues in recent posts on his official social media account.

On April 15, 2026, Thompson commented on the state of tax policy in the United States: “Today is Tax Day, and millions of hardworking Americans are feeling squeezed. This administration promised tax relief to working people. Instead, they delivered massive tax cuts to wealthy donors and big corporations and gave a fraction of what was promised to everyone else.”

The following day, April 16, he marked the anniversary of the Virginia Tech shooting with a message of remembrance: “19 years ago, 32 people were murdered and 23 were injured at Virginia Tech during one of the worst mass shootings in our country’s history.

Today, my thoughts are with the friends and families of those lost and the entire Virginia Tech community. We must continue to work to https://t.co/E418fOcCjB

Later that same day, Thompson shared an update about his engagement with higher education leaders: “Great to meet with Chico State President Steve Perez. Proud to be a CSU alum and to work with students, faculty, and administrators to help lower higher ed costs and make education more accessible. https://t.co/aIKks1qXxv”

Mike Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999. He was born in St Helena, California in 1951 and continues to reside there at age 72. Thompson graduated from California State University, Chico in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
