Rep. Mike Thompson, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 4th district, addressed several national and local issues in a series of posts on his official X account between January 17 and January 18, 2026.

On January 17, Thompson criticized former President Trump’s trade policy and the response from Congressional Republicans. He wrote, “President Trump’s latest tariff threat is going to hurt our economy. Congress has the constitutional authority over tariffs, but Congressional Republicans refuse to stand up to the president. Trade policy that impacts American families and businesses should be decided by”.

The following day, Thompson turned his attention to the Department of Justice’s handling of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. On January 18, he posted, “The Department of Justice has only released 1 percent of the Epstein files. Their deadline was in December to release ALL the files. That’s unacceptable. The DOJ needs to follow the law.”

Later on January 18, Thompson shared information about constituent services available through his office. He stated, “WEDNESDAY: Members of my staff will be in Winters at Steady Eddy’s Coffee House from 12 to 2 PM to discuss issues impacting you and our community. If you need help with passports and visas, veterans benefits, IRS issues, agricultural issues, small business assistance,”

Mike Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999 as representative for California’s 4th district. Born in St Helena in 1951 and currently residing there at age 72, Thompson graduated from California State University, Chico with a BA in 1982.
