Rep. Mike Thompson, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 4th district, recently used his social media platform to voice opposition to President Trump’s military actions in Iran and to commemorate a tragic event at the Yountville Veterans Home.
On March 8, 2026, Thompson posted: “Six American lives. $5 billion dollars. That’s the cost so far of Trump’s illegal and reckless war against Iran. Thank you to the over 100 people who joined me in Woodland to say no more illegal forever wars.” He continued his criticism later that day, referencing his own military experience: “This president’s justification for his illegal war in Iran changes by the minute. As a combat veteran, I understand what Trump doesn’t: the cost of war. Six brave Americans have already needlessly died. I fought for America in combat, and I am fighting to end this”.
The following day, on March 9, Thompson reflected on an anniversary significant to his local community: “Eight years ago, our community experienced a heartbreaking tragedy at the Yountville Veterans Home. A gunman took hostages at the Pathway Home residential program, where staff members were supporting veterans rebuilding their lives after returning from service.”
Mike Thompson has served as U.S. Representative for California’s 4th district since 1999, succeeding Frank Riggs. Born in St Helena in 1951 and currently residing there at age 72, Thompson is also an alumnus of California State University, Chico (class of 1982).
