Rep. Mike Thompson, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 4th district, voiced concerns on social media on January 17, 2026, about healthcare policies under the current administration and recent changes affecting mental health funding and veterans’ services.

Later that afternoon, Thompson acknowledged efforts by Congress and public advocacy in reversing proposed cuts to mental health programs: “When we speak up, we get results. Thompson has served in Congress since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999 and is known for his work on healthcare issues within California’s legislative delegation. Born in St Helena in 1951 and currently residing there at age 72, Thompson holds a bachelor’s degree from California State University, Chico.
