During this timeframe, Spring Lake Village received an overall CMS rating of 5, exceeding the California state nursing home average of 3.2. CMS assesses nursing homes on essential elements, including health inspection results, staffing ratios, and the quality of care for residents.

U.S. Census Bureau data shows the nation’s older adult population continues to rise while younger groups decrease. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and over grew by 13%, as the number under 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the past century, the older adult population has seen remarkable growth, from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study found that nearly half of Americans 65 and older—about 28 million—are likely to need long-term services and support. The same study indicated more than one-third may ultimately rely on nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
