The Northern Sonoma County Air Pollution District (NoSoCoAir) launched the Sonoma County Biomass Business Competition, according to a press release.
The purpose of the competition is to turn wildfire risk in Sonoma County into an economic development opportunity, according to the Sonoma County press release.
This effort builds off of Sonoma County’s Recovery and Resiliency Program, and NoSoCoAir’s “Healthy Forests, Clean Air Initiative” in 2018.
The competition will invest in California entrepreneurs in order to build a wood products industry in Sonoma from forest restoration projects.
The effort will be a county-wide collaboration between forest experts, business leaders and public officials.
Two awards of $32,500 in start-up funds and technical support packages will be supplied by the competition.
According to the press release, cash for staff labor in order to facilitate the program will also be provided in order to insure completion.
Workshops to assist with the development of business plans will be available to applicants.
