Sonoma County Public Health Officer Dr. Sundari Mase recently gave an update on how the county is doing in terms of vaccinations and the status of Sonoma County among California's tiered coronavirus levels.
Mase said in total, 66% of the Sonoma County population has had at least their partial vaccination, if not fully vaccinated already.
"I think we are doing really well even with comparison to other counties in California, as of today we have had close to 450,000 doses that have been administered and we have 48% of our population that is fully vaccinated and an additional 18% partially vaccinated for a total of 66% of Sonoma County's residents that have received at least one vaccine," Mase said in a KSRO interview.
Mase said that translates into nearly 200,000 residents of Sonoma County fully vaccinated, and approximately 74,000 partially vaccinated as of May 4.
"I would say we are doing pretty well," Mase said.
When asked about if it is true that vaccine appointments have slowed down recently as more people are getting inoculated, Mase confirmed that indeed, the appointment numbers for vaccination are slowing.
"In the last couple of weeks, we've seen sort of a falloff in appointments," Mase said.
She went on to say that it now easier to get in for an appointment, and some may even be able to get in within a day or two of setting up an appointment. Mase said this means that most of the people who wanted to get a shot, most likely have already gotten at least the first of the two dosages.
According to Mase, the 15-18 age group will be eligible for vaccinations soon, and that will also add another 37,000 residents vaccinated in the county.
Mase said that the county meets the criteria of Yellow Tier, having two COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents, this last week which translates into less than 10 cases on a seven-day average. Mase confirmed that Sonoma County should be in the Yellow Tier in the state's tiered system sometime in the coming week.
