For so many people around the country and the world, February is a very special month because it is Black History Month.

This month, governments and organizations will be working together to spread African American stories and celebrate the contributions to our society that Black Americans have made throughout the years. It is also seen as a time to reflect on our troubled past and the treatment of people of color to ensure that we do not repeat history's mistakes.

In support of Black History month, the City of Petaluma has issued a proclamation that declares its support for a month of mindfulness and reflection.

The City of Petaluma has a special connection with its Black citizens and is directing attention to the organization Petaluma Blacks for Community Development, which is an organization that seeks to make the City of Petaluma a place of equity and diversity. To celebrate the month, the city and the Petaluma Blacks for Community Development have teamed up to promote the theme of "Celebrating the Family" in an effort to further unite the community and recognize the struggles that Blacks have endured and contributions that they have been responsible for.

One of the things that the city and the organization are teaming up together on is a city-wide exhibit that will find a home in businesses around the city. This exhibit will feature portraits of diverse families in the city and things that they find important to them. In addition to bringing recognition to Black History Month, city and organization leaders hope that this will bring more attention to local businesses helping in the effort that are going through a tough time at the hands of the pandemic.
