Gerald Jones, the Sonoma State University’s (SSU) assistant vice president for Student Affairs, was recently honored with the Wang Family Excellence Award for Outstanding Staff Performance.
Jones was one of five California State University (CSU) staff to be honored with the award by the university system with a Wang Family Excellence Award, according to a university press release. Each recipient also received a $20,000 award.
"These five honorees have gone above and beyond all expectations to share their knowledge and expertise to guide our talented students on their journey to academic success,” Joseph Castro, CSU chancellor, said in the release.
Among Jones’ accomplishments, in the past three years he has worked on securing $14 million in grant funds to support at-risk and marginalized students, according to the release. In addition to the work he has done serving historically underrepresented populations, Jones also oversaw ensuring that Center for Academic Access and Student Enrichment students had the technological resources they needed during the pandemic.
