The Napa Valley Community Foundation’s One Napa Valley Initiative (ONVI) is striving to assist the thousands of area residents with a green card to complete their path to full citizenship, with 1,603 beneficiaries of the program having taken their oath of citizenship since the program’s inception in 2013.
The One Napa Valley Initiative began after a 2012 immigration study found that Napa County had approximately 9,000 legal permanent residents who were eligible for citizenship, but lacked the resources or knowledge to finish their journey toward citizenship, according to a post on the foundation’s website.
Launched in the summer of 2013, the One Napa Valley Initiative has assisted 7,900 legal permanent residents with access to legal services and enrolled 760 in English and civics classes, according to the post. In addition to those who have successfully obtained their full citizenship, another 4,564 have submitted applications for citizenship or other immigration benefits.
