Be-Bop’s Diner in Ukiah has served customers for more than a decade with retro style and fresh eats, including 42 flavors of hand-packed milk shakes and hand-pressed house burgers.
Owner Cathleen Riley recently told the Wine Country Times that she started the venture 11 years ago with two other local restaurant owners to offer Ukiah a retro diner.
“The shape of the building really was the inspiration for the transformation of the old Savings Bank that had been sitting empty for so many years,” Riley said.

While Be-Bop's atmosphere may be retro, the wide variety of foods on their menu is anything but. As their website highlights, Be-Bop's serves much more than a house burger and all-beef hotdogs — they proudly offer modern versions of traditional fare, such as “garden burgers, turkey burgers, fresh salads, and an array of specialty sandwiches.”
“We have really become known for our old-fashioned, hand-packed milkshakes in so many flavors,” Riley said. “Don't forget the hand packed, always fresh hamburgers.”
In addition, Be-Bop's offers a variety of deep-fried "fair foods", including Oreos cookies, peanut butter and jelly, and Twinkies. It also serves funnel cakes and fries.
“All are very popular and so delicious, as you might imagine,” Riley said.
On the healthier side, in addition to the veggie burgers and salads, Riley said that Be-Bop's also serves specialties such as a chicken sandwich.
“And you can substitute a turkey patty or veggie patty or chicken breast on any of our sandwiches or burgers,” she said. “It really is a destination that can appease almost anyone.”
The restaurant’s website boasts of the “best chicken strips in town” and hand-dipped fish and chips. Customers can enjoy their meals with a variety of sodas and other beverages, as well as eight craft beers on tap.
Be-Bop's is located at 1200 S. State Street in Ukiah, near the intersection of South State Street and the junction of Washington Avenue and Airport Road. It is open every day from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The menu can be found on the Be-Bop's website, and carry-out orders can be called in at 707-462-1750.
