U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson (D-St. Helena) is promoting the reopening of the Charles M. Schulz Museum, located in Santa Rosa, California.

Charles M. Schulz is known for creating the Peanuts comic strip, with its famous characters Charlie Brown and Snoopy, in 1950.

"Great to tour the Schulz Museum to see how they are safely welcoming visitors again. This is an incredible local landmark, celebrating a national icon, and we are so proud to have it right here in our district," Thompson said in a May 26 Tweet.

The Schulz Museum had closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the staff took the opportunity to make some improvements. These changes were detailed by Schulz's widow, Jean Schulz, in a blog she keeps on the museum's official site.

"These improvements have been in our heads for years, and with the necessary pandemic closures, we knew we had to jump on the opportunity and make them happen," Jean wrote on her blog. "Recent renovations have been underway, with plans for light boxes, better overhead lighting for the zoetrope and room for a cozy reading nook. We hope you can come and visit all our new attractions, and welcome back!"

The Charles M. Schulz Museum was founded in 2002 and has since welcome over 1 millions visitors from all over the world. The museum's hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends between Memorial Day and Labor Day. During fall, winter and spring, it is closed on Tuesdays.

Currently, face masks will be required for entry for all visitors over the age of 2, social distancing will be required and hand sanitation stations will be provided. The museum states that touchless payments are preferred for purchases. Employees of the museum will receive temperature checks.

The Schulz Museum can be contacted by phone at (707) 579-4452 and is located on 2301 Hardies Lane in Santa Rosa.
