41 sports coaches at institutions in Sonoma County earn on average $53,226 in 2022

Sonoma County’s 41 coaches earned an average salary of $53,226 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the 18th highest average salary per county earned by coaches at California post-secondary schools during 2022.

Sonoma County is home to two post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, Sonoma State University stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $80,369.

Male coaches of men's teams received $62,452 on average in Sonoma County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $55,981.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
