Rep. Mike Thompson, serving California's 4th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently made several statements addressing national security and public safety issues. Thompson, a St. Helena native and Chico State University graduate, replaced Frank Riggs in Congress in 1999.

On March 26, 2025, Thompson emphasized the need for executive action concerning a significant breach of classified information. He called upon the President to initiate "an independent investigation into the massive classified materials leak by the Secretary of Defense, the Director of National Intelligence, the CIA Director, the National Security Advisor, and the Vice President." In a somber reflection posted on March 27, 2025, Thompson remembered the tragic loss at Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, noting, "Two years ago, a shooter senselessly killed 3 students and 3 staff."
