City of Napa issued the following announcement on Jan. 1.
The City of Napa has announced that the Napa Police Chief, Robert Plummer, will be retiring effective January 1, 2021. Plummer came to the Napa Police Department in 2018 following a 27-year career with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, where he retired as the head of the force's homicide and sex crimes bureau. During his time in Napa, Plummer made it a point to connect with the community and identify Napa residents' specific needs. Supporting our local businesses and community partners and strengthening relationships with these partners was also a top priority for Chief Plummer.
“The year 2020 has been a challenging one for all of us. And as it comes to an end, I reflect on what is important. Having had the recent opportunity to spend quality time with my wife and family. After much prayer and contemplation, I have decided to put aside the stressors of the job and retire after 30 years of public service in law enforcement. I have had a rich and rewarding career that I embarked upon at just 22 years of age with many opportunities that I will be forever grateful for, including the honor of leading the Napa Police Department as the Chief of Police for the last two and a half years,” says Chief Plummer.
The Chief continues, “Time spent with the Napa Police department has been an exceptional highlight in my law enforcement career. It has been a pleasure to serve the Napa community while working with some of law enforcement's finest. Upon my departure, I will be leaving the City of Napa in good hands with the men and women of the Napa Police Department, both civilian and sworn. They are all dedicated professionals and take immense PRIDE in providing the highest level of service to their community. I also want to thank the local community for welcoming my wife and I and making us feel at home. We will reflect on our many fond memories in Napa, but it is time for us to return to our roots in Las Vegas and be in our children and grandchildren's lives.”
“Chief Plummer has made significant contributions to the Napa Police Department during his tenure. His ability to connect with community members at all levels, advancing the use of technology including the expedited deployment of Body Worn Cameras and reviving the NAPACAMS program to increase cameras in the downtown corridor, increasing diversity in the department, and increasing transparency to the community are all things I will remember," says City Manager Steve Potter. "This year, in particular, has thrown unique challenges our way. I am immensely grateful for Chief Plummer's leadership during this summer's protests and civil unrest and for keeping our residents safe.”
We all wish him well in his future endeavors.
The City intends to conduct recruitment to replace Chief Plummer and name an interim police chief until an appointment is made.
