Sonoma County and Safeway are working together to help with the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine for both frontline workers and the general public.
Safeway pharmacists began vaccinating approximately 5,000 in-home supportive services (IHSS) workers with the Moderna vaccine at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds on Jan. 13, according to a county press release.
"The vaccine is the most important tool we have to end the pandemic and return to normal," Lynda Hopkins, chair of the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors, said in the release. "As we ramp up our distribution efforts, the public will see more of these mass vaccination clinics, which will make the vaccine widely available for all of our population groups."
Eleven of Safeway’s pharmacies across the county were granted state approval for administering the vaccine, and the county hopes to begin vaccinating the general public by the start of February, according to the release.
