With $630,00 in CARES Act funding to distribute for the relief of problems in the homeless community related to the pandemic, Lake County is seeking applications for Emergency Solutions Grant, Coronavirus funding. | Unsplash
New funding is now available to Lake County organizations and governmental or tribal entities working with members of the homeless community who are at risk due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The $630,000 in funding available through Lake County Continuum of Care (LCCoC) comes from CARES Act funding, and will be distributed as Emergency Solutions Grant, Coronavirus (ESG-CV) funding, according to a press release from the county. Grants will be made in amounts up to $300,000 for emergency shelters and rapid rehousing programs, with grants oriented to preventing homelessness limited to a maximum of $30,000.
Some of the efforts that can be supported with the grant funds include street outreach, prevention services and emergency shelter for prevention, preparation and response to the coronavirus, according to the press release. Grants can also cover the costs of rehousing and eviction-prevention efforts, as well as staff training aimed at mitigating or preventing the spread of infectious diseases.
Training covered by the grants is for staff who are “working directly to prevent, prepare for and respond to coronavirus among persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness,” according to the release.
Eligible entities serving the homeless or those at risk of homelessness include 501(c)3 nonprofits, local governments and tribal entities, according to the release.
The final due date for applications is Tuesday, March 2 at 11:59 p.m., according to the application website. Applicants will be interviewed on Wednesday, March 10, beginning at 9 a.m.
The final awards selections are scheduled to be announced on Friday, March 19, according to the website. Appeals will be accepted through Wednesday, March 31 at noon.
The disbursement of funds will commence on Thursday, April 1, and all funding must be expended by Tuesday, Aug. 31, according to the press release.
The county will also hold a virtual question and answer session by Zoom on Thursday, Feb. 11 to assist applicants with any questions, and information about attending the zoom meeting can be found on the website.
