Sonoma County's Board of Supervisors has approved an allocation of funds to move forward with the next phase of a COVID-19 Vaccination Response plan laid out by the Sonoma County Department of Health Services.
A press release from the County Administrator's Office said the total cost of the plan from January to June is estimated at $8.1 million. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is expected to cover at lease 75% of the cost, and may cover 100% after the executive order signed by President Joe Biden goes into effect.
"Health Services will implement the vaccination plan using current appropriations and work with the County Administrator’s Office to determine the level of appropriations needed for the current fiscal year. For example, health services will allocate $4.2 million for facilities rentals, vaccine transportation, vaccine supplies and support for subject matter experts, among other services," the release said.
According to the release, $3.8 million will directly support the vaccine unit, which will provide vaccinations for those in Phase 1b, Tier 1. This population now includes all 102,000 residents 65 and over, the release said.
Funding will provide the Vaccine Units with the staff, equipment and supplies needed to perform the vaccinations.
