With Gov. Gavin Newsom planning to invest $1 billion in assisting California residents who are struggling with their water bills, State Sen. Bill Dodd (D-Napa), who has two water-related bills pending in the California State Assembly, recently expressed his support.
Dood took to his official Twitter account to offer his gratitude and support to Newsom.
“Thanks to @CAgovernor @GavinNewsom for making this historic investment to help Californians as we recover from the pandemic,” Dodd tweeted. “Ensuring everyone has access to safe, clean and affordable water is fundamental. It's also the focus of two of my bills.”
The plan for $1 billion toward helping Californians with their water bills accompanies a larger, $5.1 billion infrastructure investment, according to a press release from Newsom’s office. The investments are meant to help the state in responding to drought and water problems in the immediate term, while also building water resilience for the future.
In his own press release, Dodd discussed Senate Bill 222 and SB 223, which he said both address potential problems faced by the state’s water utility customers.
SB 222 would establish a fund to assist low-income rate payers with paying their water bills, the press release states. SB 223 would expand protocols and protections for those who could have their water shut off due to a failure to pay their bills.
