On February 10, 2025, Rep. Mike Thompson announced that he had joined forces with Rep. LaMalfa to introduce bipartisan legislation aimed at aiding homeowners in disaster-prone areas of California. The legislation is designed to help protect properties and encourage insurers to re-enter these markets. He referenced past support from Republicans for increasing penalties related to unauthorized disclosures of such data. "Last year, every Ways & Means Republican cosponsored and voted for a bill increasing criminal penalties for unauthorized disclosure of taxpayer data."

On February 12, 2025, Thompson expressed concern over the Administration's decision to cut $4 billion annually from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He questioned how vital research on diseases like cancer and Alzheimer's could continue with reduced funding and emphasized the importance of maintaining financial support across all healthcare sectors. "The Administration announced cuts of $4 billion a year from the NIH."
