Rep. Mike Thompson, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California's 4th district, has recently shared his thoughts on various issues through social media posts. Thompson, who has been serving since replacing Frank Riggs in 1999, was born in St Helena, California in 1951 and currently resides there. He graduated from California State University, Chico with a BA in 1982.
On March 7, 2025, Rep. Mike Thompson addressed claims made by the President regarding findings of fraud within government agencies. In his post "FactCheckFriday In his joint address to Congress this week, the President claimed his DOGE team has found 'hundreds of billions of dollars of fraud' in our government agencies." Thompson noted that the DOGE team's assertion of finding $105 billion in savings is questionable.
The following day, March 8, 2025, he commented on a budget resolution put forth by Republicans which mandates significant spending cuts by the House Energy & Commerce Committee. According to Thompson's tweet "Republicans’ budget resolution mandates the House Energy & Commerce Committee cut spending by $880 billion." He highlighted that such reductions would be impossible without affecting healthcare benefits for Americans and pledged to continue efforts to protect these benefits.
Later on March 8th, Rep. Thompson acknowledged International Women's Day with a message celebrating women's achievements globally and locally within his district. His tweet stated "On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the incredible accomplishments of women in our district and around the world." He emphasized ongoing efforts towards achieving equity and equality across all areas of life.
