Sonoma County took back the appointment of Windsor Mayor Dominic Foppoli to the Golden Gate Bridge District in response to a litany of sexual assault allegations against him.
The rescission occurred a week after Foppoli, who is a winery owner, was named to the district.
When asked about the decision to retract Foppoli's appointment, Supervisor and Chair of the board Lynda Hopkins told KSRO, "It was absolutely the right thing to do, none of us had any idea the allegations he was hiding at the time he accepted the Golden Gate Bridge appointment."
Foppoli was among the trio of Sonoma County leaders appointed to the district last week.
The Golden Gate Bridge District oversees the Golden Gate bridge, ferry, bus and transportation services of the Bay area.
KGO reported on Apr. 16 that Foppoli intends to "step back" from the mayorship until the end of the investigation of which he is the focus.
Foppoli, however, clarified that he is not resigning.
"I will be available to sign resolutions and, in an extreme circumstance, join a meeting to create a quorum if one of my colleagues is conflicted out," he said in a statement. "While the investigation is underway, I will not be present at Town Hall nor attend any more meetings in my capacity as mayor."
Foppoli said he will take this time to reflect on his life.
Six women allege that Foppoli sexually assaulted them in a 16-year period.
